How I Know You
Sunday Poetry
I know you first thing in the morning
How you slept and if you had crazy dreams
And I know how you take your coffee
Not as strong as mine, with sugar and cream
I know how your voice sounds when you’re worried
When you’d rather not watch the news
And I know when you’re in a hurry
Because your keys are the first things you lose
I know the songs that you sing to
When you’re driving to work in the morning
And how quickly your temper moves through
Like a storm that rages without warning
I know how you get when you’re tired
When you lay your head in my lap to sleep
And how you're always secretly inspired
By 80’s rom-coms that you watch on repeat
I know how you’re terrified of flying
But you’ll book a ticket to go anywhere with me
And how there’s no souvenir you’re not buying
Every single one, a sweet memory
I know that you wish that your Dad
Had more time to spend here on earth
And how the price that’s printed on the tag
Is never truly what something is worth
I know how you love to order sushi
Then eat it on the dry sand under the pier
And how you’ll sit silently with me
In the starlight as the day disappears
I know how sometimes you cry all alone
When your day has been pretty rough
And how you pull the car to the side of the road
To let it all out because you need to be tough
I know you just before midnight
When you close your eyes and drift off to dream
Tomorrow morning I’ll make you your coffee
Not as strong as mine, with sugar and cream

Love it, great way to round it off.
